2016 European AngelSummit Recap

Earlier this month, 198 angel investors, entrepreneurs, and community leaders gathered at Dublin’s Google Foundry. This was an exciting summit event for us, being our first major event alongside Google for Entrepreneurs, who joined us as a partner earlier this year.

Attendees came together from 14 different countries to hear 21 sessions on key topics pertaining to angel investing, connect with leaders from other communities, and form personal networks around investing in startups. (more…)

Harnessing your city’s angel potential

Marc Nager is the Chief Community Officer of Techstars. Prior to that, he was the CEO and CoFounder of Startup Weekend and UP Global (acquired by Techstars) — organizations that bring change to the lives of entrepreneurs. Marc and his team expanded Startup Weekends to over 150 countries and are still growing. They’ve built a network of thousands of volunteers who support hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs. Marc has both witnessed and fueled the global surge of entrepreneurship.

9 Ways to Grow your Angel Investment Community

During Angel Summit Europe, we held an invite-only workshop for startup community leaders from throughout Spain and across the EU region. Over the course of 90 minutes, we brainstormed ways startup communities might collaborate to grow their local angel communities. As one of the workshop facilitators, Gus Moreno, asked, “How can we increase the visibility of our success stories to potential investors on the sideline?” This question was, of course, met with much discussion around the challenges and frustrations startup ecosystems face (we’ll profile these in another post). Summit for Angels, Foundations for Growth

As much as we try to stay ahead of the curve here at Startup Angels, last week’s AngelSummit.io was in many ways overdue. As angel investing and entrepreneurship have gained traction outside coastal cities, ecosystems have sprung up in Kansas City, in Little Rock, in Provo and in Dallas, each with their own local leaders and quirks. At the same time, barriers for entry have lowered, creating thousands of new angels and entrepreneurs and making these local networks even more critical. As such, we felt the lack of a national forum convening actors from all over the startup community – investors, corporations, community leaders and entrepreneurs – was a considerable oversight.
