Chicago: Discover Startup Investing this September

The Startup Angels workshop is heading to Chicago.

On September 27 and 28, Startup Angels and 1871 Chicago will host a Startup Angels workshop designed for the Chicago community. The workshop will walk aspiring angel investors through best practices and the latest methodology to begin their investing journey.

The Startup Angels Chicago workshop is ideal for investors at any stage with an added emphasis on the next wave of Chicago’s investors. Chicago’s strong network of younger talent and up-and-coming business professionals makes for a promising ‘next gen’ of angel investors, well-poised to impact Chicago’s often conservative investing climate. Additionally, the latest influx of new investors via crowdfunding alone calls for a primer on best practices to bolster new investing communities.

“Chicago is an extremely promising place for angel investors, due to the incredible ecosystem of amazing startups, strong universities, major corporations and world-class talent,” says Howard Tullman, CEO of 1871. “We believe that access to capital is a critical factor in a strong ecosystem. By facilitating a larger focus on angel investing and attracting new people to this effort, we will collectively drive growth and sustainability for local entrepreneurs.”

The workshop will feature a line up of experts and speakers who will discuss the principles of lean investing, how to navigate deals, how to manage your involvement with your startups, a breakdown on various investing platforms and opportunities, perspectives from the legal side of investing, and more.

Speakers and experts for the event include:
Gordon Segal, Founder of Crate & Barrel
Kristina Montague, The Jump Fund
Constance Freedman, Moderne Ventures
Ira Weiss, Hyde Park Venture Partners
Josh Rogers, Arete Wealth Management
Jeff Carter, West Loop Ventures
Lauren Bigelow, Growth Capital Network
