Reno shaking up its startup investing ecosystem
Startup Angels and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada will host a startup investor workshop designed for Reno and the greater region. If you’ve ever considered startup investing, the workshop is your chance to hear best practices and join a growing network of angel investors around the globe.
On April 11 and 12, Startup Angels and EDAWN will host a Startup Angels workshop designed for the Reno community. The workshop will offer aspiring angels, current investors, wealth managers, limited partners, and family offices an insider look at best practices and the latest methodologies on startup investing.
Why Reno? In short, Reno is poised for greatness.
Global giants like Google, Microsoft, Apple (with its expansive data center) and Tesla (with its gigafactory) have major facilities around Reno. The city plays home to promising tech and tech-enabled businesses like TrainerRoad — a bootstrapped software-for-cyclists company with over 50 employees. Tahoe — a favorite mountain playground of Silicon Valley elite — is a short drive from Reno. All this, paired with the city’s affordable cost of living, and you have a recipe to attract talented technologists from around the world to relocate and fuel homegrown startup success stories.
And while the immediate region is home to approximately 15,000 accredited investors, with many thousands more residing in the hills of Tahoe, capital that’s allocated towards startups and startup investing is in short supply.
Enter the Startup Angels workshop.
The workshop will be held at the Desert Research Institute in Reno. In addition to the excellent speakers listed below, several notable angels from outside the region — including Angela Jackson of the Portland Seed Fund and Kevin Learned of the Boise Angel Alliance — will be joining to share startup investing perspectives and approaches that have worked for their own communities.
Attendees can expect to walk away with essential insights into the broader investing climate as well as activity in the Reno and greater Western Nevada community. Sessions feature expert speakers who will discuss the principles of startup investing, how to navigate deals, how to manage your involvement with your startups, a breakdown on various investing platforms and opportunities, perspectives from the legal side of investing, and more. Finally, workshop attendees are given the chance to meet other angel investors, expanding their network and opportunity for deal flow.
